Meeting Bill Sklar

Posted by Dr. Melanie Bone in general

Went to Orlando and got to hear the cancer speaker I really wanted to hear. Met a gentleman from West Palm Beach that I have worked with and who is one of the most devoted to the cancer cause, Bill Sklar.

Going Back Home

Posted by Dr. Melanie Bone in general

All day chatting it up with doctors and giving presentations about cancer. Back on a plane home feeling as though I may have actually changed a few doctors' attitudes about it. Getting a lot of nice feedback from the sponsors.

Two Moms Connecting

Posted by Dr. Melanie Bone in general

What a full day...my usual! Did emergency surgery in the morning and the worked in the office. Jumped on a plane to go to Charlotte, North Carolina to speak with doctors about hereditary cancer syndromes. I love the chance to teach my colleagues and felt the energy in the room...really, there was a lot of thunder and lightning threatening to hit the building throughout!!

Then, I was blessed to have a chance to visit a friend who moved from Palm Beach to North Carolina with husband and six children and now six dogs. I rarely get time to chat and catch up and it was almost 11pm as we lay curled up on her guest bed giggling about our lives and our kids - two moms connecting.

Manic Monday

Piles of work. Patients with problems left over from the weekend. But I started the day watching my youngest son compete in a poetry competition at his school. It started with over 50 children reciting poems they memorized. He made it through the first two rounds and was in the final 10. His poem was about Robinson Carusoe. 56 lines long and complex! He did so well at home. But, in front of the whole school, he tripped over a few words. My heart tripped with him. At the end, he began to cry.
