Can Do Quote: "Envision your mind to be an FM radio station that receives and broadcasts high vibrations. Read prayers and poetry, put down images of destruction and pick up art books; listen to classical music and positive conversations; and turn your mind over to humor, laughter and joyful music. Note the difference in the quality of thoughts that drift into your awareness as you mentally improve your airwaves. - Sonia Choquette, Trust Your Vibes, Secret Tools for Six-Sensory Living, p.76 Can Do Query: What is your mind tuned into these days that might be creating static and negative vibrations? What are the things you have learned to tune into to soothe your body, mind, and spirit? Can Do Coach Request: This week do whatever it takes each day to consciously turn your mental antennae to receive positive and uplifting images and messages. Pay attention to how you feel when doing so. Make note of any changes in your attitude and energy. Can Do Quote: "... keeping busy can...become a prison, an attachment to an old way of thinking and acting that blocks access to new vision." Joan Borysenko and Gordon Dveirin, Saying Yes to Change, p.111 Can Do Query: Has a diagnosis of cancer caused you or a loved one to go into hyper-busyness or overdrive? What are the ways you are learning to use time wisely and well? Can Do Coach Request: Take some time to reflect on your fruitful pursuits along with healing/helpful activities and those that are simply a way to distract oneself from what is going on. Pay careful attention to those things that nurture your body, inform your mind, and feed your soul and those that block you from becoming quiet enough to access new possibilities. Can Do Quote: “A necklace is not meaningful in itself, but when we connect it with the time, place, and person who gave it to us, it takes on a new specialness. It takes on meaning.” Laura Berman Fortgang, The Little Book on Meaning Can Do Query: Do you have a special healing talisman or piece of jewelry that has taken on meaning because of its connection to a person, place, or experience? Do you keep it close? Can Do Coach Request: Even a small stone that has been held in the hands of special friends and imbued with healing wishes and prayers can become a possession of great worth. Perhaps now would be a good time to invite your friends, one by one, to energetically permeate an object of yours with prayerful meaning. Keep it close and touch it for strength and comfort as needed. You might even want to tuck it under your pillow. Can Do Quote: “The only standard of perfection we have to meet is to be perfectly ourselves.” Ann Wilson Schaef Can Do Query: When does perfectionism grab you from behind and send you into a tailspin? Can Do Coach Request: Perfectionism can be insidious and debilitating. It can rob us of our vitality by superimposing unreasonable expectations and standards that stifle creativity and experimentation. As you find your way through your own healing process, what are the ways you are being most perfectly yourself right now? And what are the ways that you can free yourself up to be more so? Notice what happens as you do. Minx Boren MCC is a Master Certified Coach credentialed through the International Coach Federation. Can Do Quote: “Alone in my own busyness I sometimes become immobilized by the piles - of books, manuscripts, dishes, obligations, worries, odd socks, and all the other physical and psychological clutter I can never seem to clear away. But eventually I wake up to the fact that the piles will always be there, and I realize that spending too much time in the cramped confines of my own world makes me forget about my place in the bigger picture.” Kimberly Ridley, "from the editor," Hope Magazine, summer 2000
Can Do Query: What immobilizes you? And what sets you free?
Can Do Coach Request: Sometimes a wake-up experience like cancer can serve as an opportunity to practice true discernment. The word comes from the French “discerner” meaning to sift through. Sifting through all the busyness / busy-messes that clutter up our space and our calendars can be an eye-opening, freeing, and healing experience. Start sorting and straightening up your priorities first before you attempt to tackle every pile and nook and cranny.

Can Do Quote: "Whether you call it quiet time, meditation, or contemplation, the point is to have a period each day when you are not thinking, socializing, or working. What you are really doing when you make a time and place just for you is inviting your inner nature to become a player in your outer life.” Sarah Susanka, The Not So Big Life, p.11 Can Do Query: When and how do you set aside quiet time to allow your inner nature to be heard and to become a guiding player in your outer life? Can Do Coach Request: There is so much that can distract and disturb you when you are in the throes of dealing with the dis-ease of cancer. When do you take a “time in” to allow your deeper inklings and knowings to guide you through the healing process? Are you willing to make quiet time a priority in the midst of all that vies for your attention? Can you begin today? Remember to keep a journal nearby to capture whatever surfaces. Can Do Quote: “What is a vision? It is a compelling image of an achievable future.” Laura Berman Fortgang, coach and author Can Do Query: When and how do you take time to vision in your mind’s eye the positive possibilities and outcomes in your healing process? Can Do Coach Request: There is a growing body of research suggesting that mindful thoughts are a positive ally as both the patient and their supportive family and friends deal with all the aspects and ramifications of the cancer journey. Anything worth having is worth spending 5 minutes each day envisioning in great detail. Consider setting time aside each day to paint a healing picture in your mind’s eye. Can Do Quote: “One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times.” Clarissa Pinkola-Estes, from “Do Not Lose Heart” Can Do Query: Even in the dark times, especially in the dark times of cancer, how do you stand up and show your soul? And whose soul shines as a beacon for you as you move through your Can Do journey? Can Do Coach Request: Send yourself some gratitude for the ways you are finding to show up in a stormy world. You might want to sit quietly and write yourself a letter of appreciation. You might also want to write a letter of appreciation to (or spend time in an appreciative conversation with) someone who is a beacon for you right now. Can Do Quote: “Sometimes, when you absolutely think you don’t need to be held, it turns out to be a time when being held can be most helpful and soothing. At times like these, your very resistance is the surest sign that surrendering into someone’s loving embrace is the best medicine.” Minx Boren and Marsha Lehman, Hold Me – A More Than Coloring Book (available at www.authenticwoman.com ) Can Do Query: When dealing with cancer brings you to your knees, do you ever withdraw, pull away, or put up a barrier between yourself and the people you love? When and how? When have you, in the worst of times during your illness (or as a caregiver to someone else), been willing to open your arms wide and be held and comforted? What has happened as a result? Can Do Coach Request: The next time you feel your heart shutting down or becoming inaccessible, ask someone whom you trust and love to simply hold you. Expand that hug into a deep embrace, allowing your Self to soften and heal. For questions, thoughts, or to share ideas please contact Minx by sending an email to

Can Do Quote: “Perhaps what is needed is not only to learn good medicine but to become good medicine. As a parent. A friend or a doctor. Sometimes just being in someone’s presence is strong medicine.” Rachel Naomi Remen, Kitchen Table Wisdom, p.102 Can Do Query: Have you ever felt at a loss, unable to come up with a solution or potion to soothe your own aching sadness or that of another, especially in the face of the devastating challenges that cancer can bring? How have you found ways to simply BE good medicine for yourself or another? Can Do Coach Request: Be alert to someone who could use the healing gift of your presence. Find ways to move beyond your need to fix or find a solution to whatever ails your friend as they deal with their cancer and simply show up with an open heart and a willingness to sit with them in their pain. In the same way, if you are the one dealing with cancer, be alert to your own pain and be willing to give yourself the gift of your own whole hearted and patient presence.
