Last few days in August and my kids are back in school! My volunteers and I have been assembling one of the largest online shops offering a selection of products that will make a great gift or offer significant relief while going through treatment. We have contacted many known and little known manufactures of products that have a may have a very positive impact when deciding what is best for a friend, family member or maybe yourself. The opening is scheduled for September 20th and hope to make the dead line. If there should be a delay we will let you know!
It’s coming to the end of the summer season here in the Northeast, and I have been thinking about autumn. Actually, I can “see” it in my mind, based on decades of visual images that I can call up, much like a file on my computer.
I love listening to music, do you? Since my early career as a group exercise instructor, I knew that if my participants liked the music (if it was “hum worthy”) with a terrific, peppy beat, people responded with increased energy and enthusiasm for exercise.
I have waited an entire year to be able to spend two weeks at the Chautauqua Institute in NY State. Now that I have time on my hands between lectures and sports I would love to answer questions you may have on a cancer related subject. As an example: If recently diagnosed should I tell my children who are under twelve? My friend has been hiding from everyone since his diagnoses and I am afraid to visit thinking that he is not up for the company. If I do visit what should I say? As I always no question is two small. Every other week I bump into a friend or patient who asks me a question about themselves, a friend or family member and am flattered that they feel comfortable enough to ask! I just returned from Orlando prior to my vacation to be with a fellow MD who had surgery similar to mine at the same hospital by the same doctor. I decided to go because I knew that she wanted me there. So please ask away!
Way back in 1996, the US Surgeon General issued an important report on physical activity and warned us that regardless of our age, we are just not active enough. Since then, you may have been scratching your head, wondering just how much activity would make the Surgeon General happy.
Summer is here and so are the long sunny days we wait all winter for. This is the time of year when I spend time making sure that my children and I are well protected from the sun. On a shelf next to all our sports equipment I have a huge selection of sun blocks from 30-70 SPF. Living in Florida no one leaves home with out it! I can not stress how important it is to use sun screen, wear SPF clothing when possible and stay under an umbrella at the beach. Please take care and don’t get fried!
