KennyT: One Column We Do Enjoy!

Every Tuesday in my local paper in CA. We read your column and enjoy how you tone down the "C" word as you do. Knowing that you are a survivor, doctor and have busy family life makes you our hero. My wife and I do not have cancer but are able to talk to people we know in a way we could never before thanks to you. The great thing now is that they are all on your site and can be printed or emailed to someone. Great site! Regards, Ken & Lynn

er1855: My Wife's Journey Not Battle!

When my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer we were in the mind set that this was to be a war and we were going to win it. We met our Generals (doctors) and were briefed on what to expect. After learning that there was no front line to expect and she had no more than six months we decided to embrace those months and embark on a journey which included travel, new experiences, and preparing me to continue life with two kids on my own after 30 years. When she passed away it was more difficult than I could ever imagine but those wonderful six months were the ones I will never forget!

Freya Davidson: A Hysterectomy at 68

I am a 68 year old woman who recently underwent a total hysterectomy on March 24th. The symptom was very marginal bleeding. I experienced no pain, no bloating and no other symptoms. My gynecologist and the oncologist- gynecologist suspected atrophied organs. Three months ago a D&C was attempted but the cervix was so shut that the instrument would not penetrate. After the hysterectomy the pathology report came back that the muscle wall of the uterus had a .2 invasion of cancer, endometrial adenocarcinoma to be exact. All other reproductive organs were biopsied and came back normal. I am told that this is microscopic. Tomorrow I am going to the oncologist to see what he has to say about treatment if any. I am concerned about lymph nodes. I am healing nicely, don't take any pain medications and I am back to driving. No staging was done as cancer was not suspected at the time of surgery.
